The Story Behind The Book
“My teenage friend’s life was saved by the extraordinary self-sacrifice and skill of the Air Ambulance doctors after the vehicle she was a passenger in was hit by a road-racing driver on a Chesterfield road. I learnt that, not having a night-vision helicopter at the time, the team had to drive at breakneck speeds by road to get to the scene in time to save her. It inspired me to write George’s Bumble, to raise funds and awareness for the wonderful people on the frontline of this amazing charity” – Charlotte Smith
For Charlotte, visiting the scene reminded her of the tragic circumstances when her first husband was killed by a drunk driver in March 2017. Sadly, paramedics were unable to revive him, and he died at the scene.
Inspired by the incredible dedication and skill of the Air Ambulance crew, she decided to write a children’s book to raise funds to support the work of the wonderful people on the frontline of this amazing charity, with all profits made from the sale of copies to be donated to the Air Ambulance.
Charlotte has now happily married again and lives in Derbyshire with her husband and her 3-year and 1-year-old boys.
